Renzo Rosso, owner of group Only The Brave, confirmed John Galliano will be the new creative director of Maison Martin Margiela.

After weeks of speculation, it was established that John Galliano’s work for the brand will be seen in January  during Paris Couture week. The designer will also be in charge of all the lines of the Margiela brand.

To a number of people John Galliano evokes contradicting emotions. Somewhat a genius in his own field, it is worth questioning the praise attached to his return in the fashion world. Are we over what happened in that Parisian cafe in 2011? Should his return have been announced differently in a manner that doesn’t glorify him? The opinions are divided.

Personally, I believe the artistic input human beings bring into the world has the power to outlive us and our mistakes. Having said, our mistakes must never be forgotten otherwise they’re likely to be repeated. Although Galliono has apologised countless times and his obserevations remain sickening, I am looking forward to seeing what he, as an artist, will bring at the Maison Martin Margiela.
